Things to watch
“Life of Pi” – great story, great cinematography – all round worth going to see. I had read the book and really enjoyed it, so was a bit wary of going to see the movie. But it completely lives up to the book. Loved it!
“People” by Alan Bennett at the National Theatre in London. And since I don’t live in London, what a wonderful invention National Theatre Live is! Watching amazing theatre from London from the comfort of my very own (well, not really) cinema in Berlin! Gotta love modern technology! The play itself was wonderful – funny, thoughtful, very English (in the best sense of the word). A few soapbox moments which I didn’t like so much but never mind. Thoroughly enjoyable evening.
Unsere Mütter, unsere Väter. Three-part drama series on German television. It follows the fortunes of a group of friends who say good bye in Berlin in May 1941, expecting to be reunited by Christmas, with the war behind them. That of course does not happen. Instead we follow them into war, “sharing” in some of the experiences that have shaped a generation. Tough to watch but a definite must-see!
